ASA Sailing Classes

Reef Runner Sailing School is an American Sailing Association (ASA) certified and accredited program located in beautiful Panama City, and Key Largo, Florida, offering the experienced or novice student a proven and successful curriculum to teach the skills necessary to bareboat and captain a coastal cruising sailing vessel.  Virtually all bareboat facilities, both domestic and international, recognize ASA certification as the standard of excellence.

Reef Runner Sailing School is a 3-time ASA Outstanding School of the Year winner.  Although this honor is no longer awarded by the ASA (they discontinued it in 2012) the ASA does still honor individual instructors with an ASA Outstanding Instructor of the Year award and we are proud we have won that 6 times.

Our philosophy is to provide a fun-filled and relaxed sailing environment utilizing United States Coast Guard and ASA trained and certified instructors on comfortable Coast Guard approved teaching vessels.  We even guarantee our classes assuring you will have enough time on the water to cover the full content of your course or we will take you out again at no additional cost to you.

All sailing classes are kept small and are conducted onboard emphasizing hands on experience.  Classes are booked on demand so you are not limited by a set schedule or calendar.  Individual courses can include overnight stays in secluded bays and visits to historic areas, weather and itinerary permitting.

Reef Runner Sailing School has custom designed sailing itineraries that offer the best possible training in as little as a weekend.  Special discounts are available when you reserve multi-course combination packages.

We offer classes year-round in Panama City and in the winter months in Key Largo.  See below for our complete course list and pricing.

Key Largo

Key Largo is the northernmost island of the Florida Keys located about an hour south of Miami and 100 miles from Key West.  It is an integral part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary making it a safe haven for fish and coral to thrive.  It is also home to the nation's first undersea preserve, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, which offers some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world.

The Keys are known for warmth, sunshine, and nearly perfect weather year round.  Due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream and the Gulf of Mexico, the Keys have a mild tropical-maritime climate where the average summer and winter temperatures rarely differ more than 10 degrees. The average high in January is 75 and the average low is 63.  That makes the Keys a terrific destination and sailing ground in the colder winter months.

Panama City

Panama City and Panama City Beach (rated America's #1 beach in 1995) are located on the Gulf of Mexico in the panhandle of Florida between Mobile, AL, to the west and Tallahassee, FL, to the east.  Panama City is serviced by Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport  and is accessible by several major highways easily linking this vacation paradise to the cities of the southeast, central, and western states.

Known for its mild climate and its beautiful sugar-white beaches, Panama City is a wonderful vacation destination.  Surrounded by the protected water of St. Andrews  Bay and the open water of the Gulf of Mexico, Panama City is ideal for learning to sail in different types of water and conditions.  Plus, Panama City  has some of the most spectacular emerald green waters you will find anywhere in the world!
